Week 9

March 6 * * *

TOPIC: CHANGE! We will have a guest speaker for the first hour. Veteran TV reporter Ken Speake will talk to us about visual storytelling.

Part 2: Introduction to video editing with Final Cut Pro (this part of class will meet in Weimer room 2134; second floor, in the radio wing)

WARNING: Hard drives do not always behave well if you try to connect them to a different OS (Mac vs. Windows). If you have an external hard drive that you have used with a Windows computer, do not try to connect it to a Mac. (The reverse is also true.)

SCAN: Comparison of video editing software (from Wikipedia)

DUE at 9 a.m.: Editing 2 (see assignment)

There are two (2) audio handouts on the L: drive for you! Both concern how to work with audio in WMM.

Notes * * *

I don't expect you to master Final Cut Pro or to use it in this course. However, I want you to get a bit of hands-on experience with FCP so that you can appreciate the difference between basic programs (such as WMM and iMovie) and a full-featured nonlinear video editor.

While you can log on to the computers in 2134 Weimer with your JOU lab login, and in theory that lab is open for you to use, you might find that your access is limited because of the demands of Telecom Department courses.
