Week 4

Jan. 31 * * *

TOPIC: Video editing

Today we are meeting in the IML, Weimer room 3219 (where we watched your first videos).

READ: Bernard Chapter 13 (see Books)

DUE: Shooting 1 (see assignment)

Notes * * *

On the Editing assignments page, you will find links to Windows Movie Maker tutorials. We will focus on use of WMM because it's free and you can use it at home. If you (students) had Macs, you could use iMovie instead.

In many newspaper newsrooms, the video is edited with either WMM or iMovie.

More sophisticated video editing programs that are used in both newspaper newsrooms and TV newsrooms include Final Cut Pro, Final Cut Express (cheaper), Adobe Premiere, Avid (used in Gannett newsrooms), Pinnacle (used by the Star Tribune in Minneapolis, for example), and Sony Vegas (very cheap).
