The mwesch Assignment
Watch (in this order) and take notes on:
- An anthropological introduction to YouTube, 55 min. 33 sec.
- The Machine is Us/ing Us (Final Version), 4 min. 33 sec.
- A Vision of Students Today, 4 min. 44 sec.
Write a WRR&DQ (500-1,000 words) about the implications of video that can be produced cheaply by individuals and instantly viewed by millions around the world. That is the general focus.
PLEASE NOTE that uploading the WRR&DQ is exactly the same as for any other WRR&DQ.
Please also stay on topic for the subject matter of THIS course, which is NOT about anthropology or education, for example.
Your discussion paper must include:
- A narrowing of the general focus based on an idea brought up in any one of the three videos. Please state this more specific focus of your paper explicitly in the first sentence. Then STICK TO that selected focus.
- At least one specific reference to something in Jenkins's book (but DO NOT quote extensively!). By "specific," I do mean you must include a PAGE NUMBER.
- Specifically stated implications related to a democratic society, mass communication, public goods, journalism or freedom of speech, community, etc. That is, topics relevant to the subject matter of this course.
- Support your arguments. Do not just say "I think" and "I believe." Provide concrete examples to back up what you say.
If you refer to a video or videos on YouTube that are not referenced in Wesch's video(s), then also provide a specific URL to each video to which you are referring.
> Submit your paper in the usual way.
