Two books are required for this course. Reading assignments are specified for each week. In addition to chapters in the required books, printed handouts and online articles will be assigned.

I have been evaluating textbooks about online journalism for three years now, and this is the first really good one I have found. You can buy it directly from the publisher for $39.95. (There is no discount on this book at Amazon.com.

Williams, R., & Tollett, J. The Non-Designer's Web Book, 2nd Edition. Berkeley, Calif.: Peachpit Press, 2000.
You can get this one from Amazon.com for $24.49, saving 30 percent (wow!). A very friendly and non-technical book, this will set you on the right road to good Web design practices.
