Story 002 / foreignstudents A new computer system makes it easier to document and track foreign students. Colleges and Universities have until February 15 to make sure that their systems are compatible with the new one used by the Immigration and Naturalization Service. University of Florida International Center, Dean Dennis Jett says the center has already started using the new system. Jett says although it will be more efficient, the system isn't running so smoothly now. The Student Exchange Visitor Information System replaces the paper-based method that the INS has used for years to track foreign students. Jett says the new system allows the federal government to recieve student information much faster than they could using the old system. Schools must provide academic, personal, and financial information on their foreign born students and their dependents. 131 words BITES: jett01.wav jett02.wav
